Domestic Affairs

The wedding of Mànas at Dunkeld in Circinn was a grand affair, that displayed the prestige and grandeur of Scotland
CKS 911.4 Mànas, King in Scotland, was wed to Nest ferch Ridoredh de Vannes.
She was immediately recognized as an insightful and talented woman, who would be a great asset to her husband.
The celebration in February of 912 was even greater when little Uilleam was born hale and healthy to the royal couple.
This happiness was tempered in July when Ximena Íñuga was murdered by Farquhar de Ronaldsay. Ximena, 64 year old grandmother to Mànas had served the Gòrdonach family and Scotland well. She had been spymaster to her husband, regent and Spymaster for her son Uilleam, and spymaster until her death for Mànas. Farquhar was found with his own throat slit scant days later.

East Francia

In July of 912, Hemma Karling, Duchess of Swabia won her claim upon East Francia and was declared Queen. Mànas was designated her heir.
Raimbaut Karling, husband of Mànas’ sister Màiri, lost the crown of Aquitaine in 914 to Gisele Karling. As Raimbaut was imprisoned, Màiri ran to her mother’s court in East Francia. In 915 Raimbaut was executed by Gisele. Word was received in Scotland that the widowed Màiri was wed matrilineally to Gottfried Wilhelmiden of Holstein by her mother.

Consolidation

Countess Skuld of Djuraby (Derby) was in revolt against her Norse liege, and Scotland rapidly declared holy war and conquered her lands for God and the realm.

York

Mànas then turned his attention to the county of Lincoln, and Earl Ælfric, who was in revolt against Björg. He surrendered to her and ended the conflict quite quickly, however. So, Scotland declared war directly upon Björg, pressing Duke Malmure of Northumberland’s claim upon the County of Northumberland. This war was more substantial, with York entering with it’s levies. Scotland hired the Breton Band. Sharp engagements at Veisafjorðr and Edinburgh which Scotland won, prompted York to call on Gwynedd. It was again, a general war in Britain, with Scotland matched against the two central powers in the south. Several sieges and some other skirmishes led to York’s surrender of Northumberland in October of 917.
Meanwhile Duke Gorm I of Lothian captured the County of Ulster, extending Scotland further into Ireland. And Queen Hemma began a series of successful holy wars extending Germany north and east.

Lincoln, under Earl Morcar, revolted against York again in 922, and Scotland declared war to capture the territory. Again, Scotland was foiled by Lincoln surrendering to York. The council began to plan their next actions to bring the south to heel.
